Hyundai is gearing up to unveil its much-anticipated Ioniq 2, a compact electric crossover, at the upcoming IAA Mobility Show in Munich this September. The Ioniq 2 will serve as Hyundai’s most affordable EV in Europe, aiming to attract a wider audience to its growing electric lineup.
Positioned below the Ioniq 5, the new model is expected to launch in Q3 2026 with prices starting at around £25,000 / €30,000. Hyundai’s strategy is to offer a practical, cost-effective EV that can rival popular compact electric models such as the Renault 5, VW ID.2, Peugeot e-208, and Renault 4 E-Tech.
The Ioniq 2 will be built on the front-wheel-drive E-GMP platform with a 400-V system, ensuring competitive efficiency while maintaining affordability. Battery choices are expected to range from 58 kWh to 81 kWh, with a possible LFP option for enhanced cost savings.
Spy shots suggest a coupé-inspired roofline and an SUV-like stance similar to the Bayon, combined with slim LED headlights reminiscent of the Ioniq 6. The interior will reportedly feature a major upgrade with a sleek, integrated dashboard merging instrumentation and infotainment.
On the technology front, the Ioniq 2 is expected to introduce a “step change” in the user experience, likely powered by Hyundai’s new Pleos software platform. This system integrates infotainment, vehicle OS, cloud services, and OTA updates to deliver a seamless digital ecosystem.
Production is expected to be based in Europe, supporting Hyundai’s competitiveness in the region and compliance with EU manufacturing strategies.
With the Ioniq 2, Hyundai is set to strengthen its foothold in the entry-level EV segment, delivering affordability, practicality, and advanced technology for urban and suburban drivers.
