In order to create a cooperative research framework centered on batteries and electrification, Hyundai Motor Group has announced a ground-breaking collaboration with three prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs): IIT Delhi, IIT Bombay, and IIT Madras. The goal of this project is to transform the creation of electric vehicle (EV) technologies specifically suited to the Indian market.

The Hyundai Center of Excellence (CoE), the focal point of the collaboration, will be built at IIT Delhi and run with support from Hyundai Motor Group. In addition to promoting talent development and academic-industry collaboration, the CoE will lead developments in electrification and battery technology.

Over the course of five years (2025–2029), Hyundai Motor Group intends to invest USD 7 million in research into electrification, battery technology, and emerging technologies including software and hydrogen fuel cells. The only EV research center in India, the Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART) at IIT Delhi, will also be a part of the partnership.

Important areas of attention consist of:

      • Creating electrification technology and battery solutions tailored to India.
      • Strengthening the EV ecosystem in accordance with EV adoption policies set forth by the Indian government.
      • Entering new markets such as smart automotive software and hydrogen fuel cells.

Through research projects, specialized lectures, and training programs, the Hyundai CoE will promote human and technical exchanges between specialists from Korea and India. The Group intends to further integrate academic knowledge with industrial demands by promoting mid- to long-term job possibilities for Indian talent.
