Hyundai Motor Group has announced a significant global expansion of its advanced electric vehicle energy-management technologies, reinforcing its position as a leader in next-generation mobility. The company is accelerating the rollout of Vehicle-to-Grid (V2G), Vehicle-to-Home (V2H), and broader Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) services across Korea, Europe, and the United States—transforming EVs into powerful mobile energy units capable of supporting homes, communities, and national grids.

      Global Rollout of V2X Technologies

Hyundai confirmed that its first customer-focused V2G pilot programme in Korea will go live by the end of 2025, beginning on Jeju Island, a region known for its high renewable-energy adoption. Using models like the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Kia EV9, customers will be able to store sustainable electricity during off-peak hours and supply it back to the grid when demand peaks. This approach aims to improve grid stability, optimise renewable-energy usage, and lower consumer energy costs.

In Europe, Hyundai is launching one of the region’s first OEM-led V2G services, starting in the Netherlands. Equipped with bidirectional charging capabilities, vehicles will automatically charge during low-tariff periods and return energy to the grid at high-tariff times. Initial compatibility includes the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and Kia EV9, with additional models planned for later integration.

Expanding V2H in the United States

Hyundai and Kia are also enhancing vehicle-to-home capabilities in the U.S., enabling EVs to power homes during outages or high-demand periods. Existing models like the Kia EV9 already support V2H, and upcoming models such as the Hyundai IONIQ 9 and new-generation Kia EV6 will expand this capability. This feature offers homeowners improved energy resilience while reducing reliance on the grid during peak-load events.

Redefining the Future of Sustainable Mobility

By integrating energy-storage capability directly into electric vehicles, Hyundai is shaping a decentralised, sustainable energy ecosystem. The V2G and V2H technologies enable EVs to actively participate in energy management—improving renewable-energy utilisation, supporting power-grid stability, and offering financial savings to EV owners.

Hyundai’s expanded V2X strategy marks a major step toward building a smarter, cleaner, and more resilient global energy infrastructure, positioning electric vehicles at the heart of the future energy network.
