After the Honda e was discontinued in 2023, Honda made a daring comeback into the compact electric car market with the unveiling of its futuristic Super EV Concept at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
With its round headlights, vertical lamp highlights, and a closed front grille that houses the charging station, the design features a boxy, retro-inspired style reminiscent of the Japanese-market N-One kei vehicle. Its whimsical form and squared-off attitude are meant to blend contemporary EV functionality with retro appeal.
On Goodwood’s renowned 1.16-mile course, Honda conducted dramatic hill-climb laps while the prototype remained hidden, enabling aficionados to experience its handling up close. A request for public input indicated intentions to assess customer reaction prior to a possible production decision.
Honda has hinted that the idea might be a fun, city-friendly hatchback replacement for the Honda e, with upgraded batteries, a new EV platform, and an affordable price range of £15,000 to £30,000, even if technical details are yet unknown.
The Super EV Concept was a part of a larger Honda exhibition at Goodwood that also featured the hybrid Prelude, the final Civic Type R Ultimate Edition, and the future 0 Series SUV, showcasing the range of Honda’s electrified strategy.
Although it has not yet been confirmed for production, its Goodwood debut indicates Honda’s intention to bring back its A-segment EV presence. It may launch alongside up to seven further EVs that are anticipated to reach worldwide markets by 2030.
