Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today announced a strategic reassessment of its automobile electrification roadmap, resulting in the cancellation of three electric vehicle (EV) models originally planned for production in North America.
As a consequence of this revision, the company expects to record significant fiscal year losses. Honda has updated its consolidated financial forecast for the year ending March 31, 2026, reflecting impairments and write-offs associated with the revised EV strategy. Analysts estimate that the cumulative financial impact could reach approximately ¥2.5 trillion ($15.7 billion) over multiple years.
“While this is a difficult but necessary decision, our focus remains on sustainable growth and competitive innovation in the evolving EV market,” said a Honda spokesperson. “We are committed to strengthening our core business while carefully shaping the future direction of our electrification initiatives.”
Honda continues to explore new technological approaches for electric and hybrid vehicles, aiming to balance long-term profitability with market demands and regulatory requirements. Further updates on strategic plans and financial forecasts will be provided as developments progress.
