Honda has officially entered the electric motorcycle segment with the launch of its first EV motorcycle, the WN7, aimed initially at the European market. Designed for urban commuting, the WN7 offers a range of over 130 kilometres on a single charge, with home charging taking under three hours and fast charging via CCS2 allowing the battery to go from 20% to 80% in just 30 minutes.
The WN7 retains familiar Honda design elements, featuring a chain drive, permanent magnet synchronous motor, and a 5-inch colour TFT display. Riders can also use the Honda RoadSync app for smartphone connectivity. The motorcycle comes with a 20-litre underseat storage compartment and a sound-emitting system, required in Europe for EVs to alert pedestrians.
Priced at £12,999 (approximately Rs 19.5 lakh) in Europe, the WN7 is positioned as a premium city commuter. The motorcycle is targeted at younger, urban riders seeking a quiet, easy-to-handle vehicle. However, Honda has not yet disclosed detailed specifications such as top speed, motor power, or battery capacity, making it difficult to directly compare performance with existing electric motorcycles on the market.
While the WN7 is currently aimed at Europe, its launch signals Honda’s strategic intent to expand into the EV segment globally. In India, local manufacturers like Revolt, Ultraviolette, and Ola Electric already offer similar or superior specifications at more competitive price points. For Honda to succeed in the Indian market, it would need a tailored strategy with more competitive pricing and features.
Despite these challenges, the WN7 marks an important milestone for Honda as it pivots toward electrification and prepares for the future of urban mobility worldwide.
