Honda Motor Company has announced it is canceling the development of three electric vehicle models that were planned for North America: the Honda 0 SUV, Honda 0 Saloon, and Acura RSX EV. The move comes as the company reevaluates its global electrification strategy in response to changing market conditions and softer EV demand in certain regions.
In an official statement, Honda said launching these models under the current conditions would likely result in long-term financial losses. The reassessment also reflects shifts in emission policies and growing competition from software-focused EV manufacturers.
The company expects the decision to generate significant write-offs and impairment losses, potentially totaling up to 2.5 trillion yen (roughly Rs. 1.45 lakh crore), covering development costs and associated investments.
Despite the global setback, Honda confirmed its India EV roadmap remains unaffected. The company highlighted India as a key market, with plans to strengthen its lineup and maintain cost competitiveness. Notably, the Honda 0 Alpha electric model is still slated for launch in 2027, underscoring Honda’s commitment to the Indian market.
