Honda Cars India has started road testing its first electric SUV in the country, marking an important step in the brand’s electrification strategy for the Indian market. The test programme will evaluate the vehicle across different regions and road conditions before its planned launch.
The upcoming electric SUV is expected to offer a driving range of around 500 km on a single charge, placing it in direct competition with electric SUVs in the mid-size segment such as the Hyundai Creta Electric.
As part of the testing phase, Honda engineers will assess the vehicle’s performance in real-world conditions, including city traffic, highways and rough road surfaces. The tests will also examine how the vehicle performs under extreme temperatures and heavy monsoon conditions, which are common in India.
The electric SUV is believed to be based on the brand’s new EV architecture that was previewed globally through the Honda 0 Series. The development programme aims to ensure the vehicle is well suited to Indian driving conditions and infrastructure.
Honda is expected to introduce the electric SUV in the 2026–27 timeframe, with India likely to play a key role in its production and potential exports to other markets.
