Hero Surge Future Mobility, a subsidiary of Hero MotoCorp, is all set to launch the Hero Surge S32, India’s first 2-in-1 electric vehicle capable of transforming between a two-wheeler and a three-wheeler.
The vehicle has received type approval from the Government of India under the new L2-5 category, making it the first vehicle approved under this framework. Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, announced the approval on his official X handle, calling the Surge S32 a “world’s first category-swapping vehicle.”
Designed for versatility, the Surge S32 targets self-employed users and small businesses who need both a cargo carrier and an electric scooter. The vehicle features a modular platform: an electric scooter docks into a three-wheeler chassis, becoming the control hub while retaining separate powertrains for both forms.
The three-wheeler module houses an 11 kWh battery and a 13.4 bhp motor with a top speed of 50 kph. The detachable scooter features a 3.5 kWh battery and a 4 bhp motor, capable of 60 kph. Both modules share a simple electronic connector for seamless integration, ensuring ease of use without compromising performance.
The Hero Surge S32 will be offered in passenger (S32 PV) and cargo (S32 LD and S32 HD) versions, providing a flexible solution for India’s growing electric mobility market.
