Lithium-ion battery-powered forklifts with an indigenously developed Battery Management System (BMS) have been introduced by Godrej and Boyce. The new battery systems, which were created in collaboration with Log9 Materials, combine a proprietary Battery Management System (BMS) that is entirely created and manufactured in India with lithium-ion cells that are 30% locally produced.

By the next year, the company wants all of the cells to be locally identified. The solution offers a secure and self-sufficient Li-Ion battery system, thereby meeting a pressing requirement in the material handling industry in India. The producer in India is allegedly making this kind of item for the first time.

The company aims to extend this technology to other material handling equipment. Industries set to benefit include automotive, FMCG, consumer durable, retail including e-commerce, pharmaceuticals, and other major manufacturing sectors.

Anil Verma, Executive Director & Chief Executive Officer, Godrej & Boyce Manufacturing Co. Ltd., part of the Godrej Enterprises Group said, “India’s logistics sector is at a pivotal juncture, experiencing robust growth driven by infrastructure advancements across sectors, fuelled by rising consumer demand. The future of India’s logistics will be shaped by this commitment to nation building and innovation, securing a more resilient and adaptive industry.”
