GFCL EV Products Ltd, a subsidiary of Gujarat Fluorochemicals Ltd (GFL), has received a $50 million investment from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) to develop India’s first fully integrated battery materials manufacturing facility in Gujarat. The strategic funding marks a major step toward advancing India’s domestic EV battery supply chain.

IFC Funding to Boost India’s EV and Clean Energy Ecosystem

The IFC investment—structured through compulsorily convertible instruments—aims to accelerate India’s transition to clean mobility and energy storage. By supporting local production of critical battery materials, IFC is helping reduce India’s dependency on imports and strengthen its EV ecosystem.

State-of-the-Art Facility to Come Up in Gujarat

The upcoming facility will be established in Jolva, near Bharuch, Gujarat, positioning the region as a key hub in India’s advanced battery materials manufacturing landscape. The plant is designed to support large-scale production aligned with global quality and safety standards.

Will Produce Critical Battery Components for EVs and ESS

The integrated facility will manufacture several essential components required for lithium-ion battery production, including:

      • LiPF6 electrolyte salt

      • Electrolyte formulations

      • Battery performance additives

      • LFP cathode active materials

      • PVDF/PTFE binders used in cell manufacturing

These materials are vital for electric vehicles, stationary energy storage systems, and renewable energy applications.

Strengthening India’s Domestic Battery Supply Chain

With EV adoption accelerating across the country, domestic production of raw materials has become a national priority. GFCL EV’s project supports India’s goals of:

      • Building a self-reliant battery materials ecosystem

      • Ensuring supply chain security

      • Reducing import dependency

      • Enhancing clean mobility infrastructure

IFC’s backing also reflects growing global confidence in India’s rapidly expanding EV and advanced chemistry cell (ACC) sectors.

High-Value Job Creation and Industrial Growth Expected

The project is projected to generate skilled employment opportunities in manufacturing, R&D, and engineering. It also aligns with the government’s broader push toward Atmanirbhar Bharat and clean-tech innovation.

A Milestone for India’s EV Battery Manufacturing Landscape

With this investment, GFCL EV is positioned to become a key player in the global battery materials market. The facility will play a transformative role in supporting India’s push towards sustainable, locally manufactured energy solutions.
