The Genesis G70, the luxury brand’s entry-level sedan, may face discontinuation after the 2027 model year, according to industry reports. The move reflects shifting consumer demand as buyers increasingly prefer SUVs and electric vehicles over traditional sedans.
While reports suggest that no second-generation G70 is currently planned, Genesis has stated it has “no plans to discontinue G70 at this time”. Still, declining sales and market trends indicate the sedan’s future remains uncertain.
Sales figures highlight the challenge: Genesis sold 13,246 G70 units in 2023, which dropped to 12,258 in 2024. In the first half of 2025, sales fell another 7% year over year, with only 5,136 units sold. By contrast, Genesis’s SUV models, including the GV70 and GV80, continue to post strong numbers, underscoring the shift in buyer preferences.
Currently, the 2026 Genesis G70 starts at $44,845. If discontinued, the GV70 SUV, priced from $50,480, would become the brand’s most affordable offering.
The possible end of the G70 follows an industry-wide trend, as automakers prioritise SUVs and EVs that align more closely with consumer demand and future growth.
For Genesis, the decision could mark the close of an era for one of its most stylish sedans while reinforcing its pivot toward SUVs and electrification.
