Fuel Price Concerns Drive Rise in EV Interest in Odisha

Rising fuel prices are prompting a growing number of consumers in Odisha to consider electric vehicles (EVs), leading to a sharp increase in inquiries across dealerships and digital platforms. Automobile dealers in key cities report higher footfall, with many prospective buyers actively seeking information on EV pricing, range, charging options, and long-term savings.

Dealers say the shift is largely driven by the rising cost of petrol and diesel, which has made conventional vehicles more expensive to run. In contrast, EVs are increasingly being viewed as a cost-effective alternative due to lower operating and maintenance expenses. Customers are also showing greater awareness of environmental benefits, further supporting the transition.

The surge in interest is being aided by government incentives, including subsidies and tax benefits, as well as gradual improvements in charging infrastructure across the state. Availability of newer models with better range and features is also attracting first-time buyers.

Industry observers believe this trend reflects a broader change in consumer mindset, where affordability and sustainability are becoming key decision factors. While actual sales are still catching up, the rising volume of inquiries signals strong future demand for electric mobility in Odisha.
