India will soon see a lot of activity in the midsize electric SUV market, and here we’ve discussed the models that will be available with a range of more than 500 km.
The goal of the four next models is to enter the midsize market, where expectations are high and risks are high. Mahindra is positioning the XUV, while Maruti Suzuki is relying on the eVX. We’ve also discussed the e8-derived XEV 7e and two future Tata EVs:
1. Mahindra XEV 7e:
The Mahindra XEV 7e was seen in near-production form in a series of leaked photos earlier this year, showing stylistic cues from the XUV.e8 concept and the recognisable XUV700 lines. It is anticipated to have battery options akin to those of the XEV 9e and BE 6, and it seems to be supported by Mahindra’s INGLO skateboard platform. On a full charge, a range of more than 500 kilometres is probably possible.
2. Maruti Suzuki e Vitara:
The eVX, which is expected to arrive in showrooms in September 2025, will spearhead Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the electric vehicle market. The midsize SUV, which was created entirely as an EV, will be sold through Nexa stores across the country and is built on the Heartect e platform. There will be two battery packs available, with the larger model reportedly having a range of more than 500 miles between charges.
3. Tata Harrier EV:
Tata is preparing for the June 3 launch of the Harrier EV. It has also been established that the electric SUV can go more than 500 kilometres between charges. Early information suggests a dual-motor setup with power units positioned on both axles to support an all-wheel-drive layout, even though the official technical sheet has not yet been made public.
It is anticipated to produce a peak torque of about 500 Nm, suggesting that it would perform well on the road in its class. In certain versions, power will be delivered to all four wheels via a dual-motor arrangement powered by a 75 kWh lithium-ion battery pack. According to reports, a second, more affordable version with a lower battery to maintain a competitive price is reportedly in the works.
4. Tata Sierra EV:
At the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025, Tata unveiled the brand-new Sierra. The SUV, which will be offered in both gasoline/diesel and electric versions, is expected to hit showrooms before the end of the fiscal year. In terms of design, the finished model remains mostly true to the original concept, maintaining a number of unique features that pay homage to the vintage Sierra from bygone eras.
