Ford Motor Company has published professional advice to help electric vehicle (EV) drivers maximize performance, range, and safety throughout the colder months as winter approaches in many U.S. regions. These insights guarantee that EV owners are ready for the challenges of winter by utilizing cutting-edge capabilities like preconditioning and offering helpful guidance on tire maintenance.

Important Winter Driving Advice from Ford Professionals:

Park in a Garage: Because EVs have no exhaust emissions, storing them indoors preserves battery life and permits safe cabin preconditioning while the vehicle is in the garage.

Clear the Snow Completely: Clearing the snow improves vision and guarantees that driver-assist sensors are operating correctly.

Keep Your EV Plugged In: By keeping the battery above freezing temperatures, plugging in over prolonged parking periods preserves battery health and avoids range loss.

Utilize Preconditioning Features: To maximize energy efficiency, owners can precondition the battery and cabin by setting departure times via the FordPass app or Ford’s SYNC touchscreen.

Optimize HVAC Use: By lowering HVAC energy consumption, heated seats and steering wheels can increase range when driving or charging.

Maintain the Right Tire Pressure: In cold weather, proper tire pressure enhances handling, safety, and range.

Available in the 2024 F-150® Lightning® and the impending 2025 Mustang Mach-E®, Ford’s proprietary Vapor Injection Heat Pump (VIHP) helps to lower power consumption without sacrificing cabin comfort. For optimum performance, this technology automatically warms the batteries and cabin.

Users can remotely regulate seat heating, defrost settings, and cabin temperature with the FordPass app. Regenerative braking increases range even more for drivers traveling in the winter, especially when traveling downhill.
