Eicher Trucks and Buses, a division of VE Commercial Vehicles (VECV), has delivered six fully built Eicher Skyline Pro-E 12m electric tarmac buses to IndiGo at Kempegowda International Airport. The order marks Eicher’s entry into ground support equipment for the aviation sector, reinforcing its focus on sustainable mobility solutions.
The electric tarmac buses will be used by IndiGo to transport passengers between the airport terminal and aircraft stands, supporting the airline’s efforts to reduce the environmental impact of its ground operations.
Commenting on the partnership, Suresh Chettiar, Executive Vice President, Bus Division, VECV, said,
“We are honoured to partner with IndiGo in their journey towards greener and sustainable ground operations at Kempegowda Airport. With these tarmac coaches, Eicher is committed to sustainably serving the 42 million passengers that pass through Bengaluru each year.”
The Eicher Skyline Pro-E 12m electric bus is purpose-built for airport operations, offering a seating capacity of 17 passengers plus driver, along with space for 52 standees. It features advanced lithium-iron phosphate batteries, CCS2 fast-charging technology, full air suspension, power-assisted steering, and disc brakes on both axles, ensuring safety, comfort, and reliability under demanding airport conditions.
With in-house EV powertrain development and growing partnerships to strengthen the charging ecosystem, VECV aims to play a pivotal role in institutional electrification at scale. The collaboration with IndiGo represents not only a product deployment but also a strategic step toward enabling clean mobility in critical infrastructure sectors.
