Eaton and ChargePoint have unveiled a breakthrough in electric vehicle charging with the launch of ultrafast DC V2X chargers and modular power infrastructure at the RE+ trade show in Las Vegas. The new solution, called the ChargePoint Express Grid, is designed to deliver up to 600 kW for passenger EVs and megawatt-level charging for heavy-duty trucks.
The innovative architecture promises 30% lower capital expenditure and operational costs, along with a 30% reduction in physical footprint, making it a cost-effective and space-saving alternative to existing fast-charging solutions.
According to Eaton, the system is built on its “Everything as a Grid” approach, which integrates onsite renewables, storage, and vehicle batteries with local energy markets. Its vehicle-to-everything (V2X) capabilities allow fleets to reduce fueling costs and support grid balancing when scaled with utility partnerships.
Paul Ryan, vice president and general manager of energy transition at Eaton, emphasized the significance of the partnership:
“Accelerating electrification at scale hinges on industry-changing technology that can be deployed faster while achieving reliability and efficiency at a much lower cost.”
Rick Wilmer, CEO of ChargePoint, added:
“The new Express Grid architecture takes DC fast charging to levels of performance and cost not previously imagined.”
Deliveries of the new chargers are expected to begin in the second half of 2026. Eaton’s vice president of engineering and technology, Luiz Huet de Bacellar, will highlight the benefits of DC microgrids and advances in safety standards during the RE+ event scheduled for September 8–11.
The launch comes at a crucial time as the global EV industry faces rising demand for megawatt charging solutions. With China leading advancements in high-powered battery architectures, scalable charging infrastructure like the Express Grid is expected to play a pivotal role in future-proofing global EV adoption.
By streamlining installation through DC-to-DC conversion and planning future commercialization of solid-state transformers, Eaton and ChargePoint aim to transform the economics of EV charging while strengthening support for the clean energy transition.
