Partnership to drive innovation in battery leasing for electric three-wheelers and accelerate adoption of lithium-ion technology nationwide

Vande Bharat E-Vehicles (Sahanianand E-Vehicles Pvt. Ltd.), a pioneer in electric three-wheelers, has partnered strategically with Eastman Auto & Power Ltd. (EAPL), a market leader in India’s energy storage industry. A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was inked by the two businesses to work together on implementing cutting-edge lithium-ion battery technology for India’s rapidly expanding electric vehicle (EV) market.

Eastman will provide Vande Bharat E-Vehicles with lithium-ion batteries valued at ₹50 crore a year as part of this collaboration. The Vande Bharat E-Rickshaws, which aim to increase the affordability and accessibility of EV adoption for fleet operators and commercial drivers nationwide, will be powered by these batteries.

By utilising Vande Bharat E-Vehicles’ extensive knowledge of the electric three-wheeler market and Eastman’s technology leadership in lithium-ion energy solutions, the partnership seeks to accelerate India’s shift to sustainable transportation. Through this partnership, Eastman, which is already a market leader in e-rickshaw batteries, will solidify its position in the electric three-wheeler sector.

“This partnership marks a significant milestone for Eastman as we join forces with Vande Bharat E-Vehicles to accelerate the growth of electric mobility in India,” stated Mr. Shekhar Singal, Managing Director, Eastman Auto and Power Ltd. Their extensive fleet of E-Rickshaws and our state-of-the-art lithium-ion battery technology will be essential in enabling millions of people to travel sustainably. We take pride in helping India realise its goal of lowering carbon emissions and creating a greener energy future.

“We are excited to partner with Eastman in this transformative collaboration,” stated Mr. Sumit Anand, Director of Vande Bharat E Vehicles, in response to the alliance. Our goal is to offer dependable, reasonably priced, and environmentally friendly mobility solutions. As we collaborate to empower drivers, facilitate greener logistics, and move India closer to its net-zero objectives, this Memorandum of Understanding is a crucial first step.

This collaboration is a significant step towards fulfilling India’s goals for renewable energy and electric transportation. Eastman and Vande Bharat E Vehicles (Sahanianand E-Vehicles Pvt Ltd) are dedicated to developing accessible, scalable, and environmentally responsible transportation solutions that enhance livelihoods and lessen their negative effects on the environment.
