The Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) has announced that the emirate has surpassed 1,270 electric vehicle (EV) charging points, reinforcing Dubai’s leadership in the region’s transition to green mobility.

The milestone was shared by HE Saeed Mohammed Al Tayer, MD and CEO of DEWA, as part of the authority’s strategic efforts to support the city’s growing EV ecosystem. With over 40,600 electric vehicles now on Dubai’s roads as of mid-2025, the expansion comes at a critical time for sustainable transportation initiatives.

“In line with the leadership’s vision to transform Dubai into a global model for smart urban development, we launched the EV Green Charger initiative in 2014—the first public EV charging network in the region,” Al Tayer stated. “We are enhancing the initiative with digital services and a licensing system to attract private investments into EV infrastructure.”

      Support for Long-Term Climate Goals

The infrastructure boost is aligned with Dubai’s long-term climate strategies, including the Dubai Clean Energy Strategy 2050 and the Dubai Net Zero Carbon Emissions Strategy 2050, both of which aim to ensure that 50% of all vehicles on UAE roads are electric or hybrid by 2050.

Regulatory Framework Encourages Private Sector Participation

DEWA has introduced a dual-track regulatory framework for EV charging infrastructure, which enables both direct deployment by the utility and licensing of independent charge point operators. DEWA has designed this approach to meet the increasing demand while upholding high service and sustainability standards.

      Enhanced Accessibility Through Strategic Partnerships

In a move to improve convenience for EV users, DEWA has partnered with Parkin to install charging stations at high-demand parking areas across the emirate. The EV Green Charger network now includes ultra-fast, fast, public, and wall-box chargers.

Users—whether registered or guests—can locate and use EV chargers through DEWA’s smart app, website, and 14 other digital platforms.

To further engage the public and promote EV adoption, DEWA recently launched the Dubai EV Community Hub, a dedicated website providing resources and guidance for EV owners, investors, and businesses in the region.
