In a move to boost eco-friendly tourism and revive city tours post-pandemic, the Delhi government is all set to launch guided electric bus city tours from September 1, 2025. The initiative will be operated by the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC) in collaboration with the Delhi Tourism and Transportation Development Corporation (DTTDC).
The full-day sightseeing tours will be conducted using air-conditioned electric buses, each with a capacity of 32 passengers. The buses will start and conclude their journeys at the Delhi Tourism office on Baba Kharak Singh Marg, covering popular destinations such as Connaught Place, Police Memorial, Dilli Haat, Pradhanmantri Sangrahalaya, and several historic monuments.
Affordable, Tourist-Friendly Experience
To cater to both domestic and international tourists, the buses will be equipped with trained guides and multilingual audio headsets offering information in various languages. Ticket pricing is set at ₹500 for adults and ₹300 for children aged 6 to 12 years. Children under 6 years can travel for free.
A DTTDC official confirmed that the service is scheduled to begin on time, stating, “We are working on branding the buses with promotional wraps and training the guides.” “If the response is positive, we will consider adding more buses and expanding the routes.”
Delhi’s Growing Electric Bus Fleet
This new tourism venture comes as Delhi continues to expand its electric vehicle infrastructure. The capital currently operates over 1,700 electric buses, with plans to deploy an additional 2,080 by the end of 2025—making it India’s largest electric bus fleet.
The initiative also revives the pre-pandemic ‘Hop-On Hop-Off’ (HOHO) bus model, now with a sustainable twist. Unlike the older diesel-based buses, the new electric fleet aligns with Delhi’s clean energy goals and offers a quieter, emission-free travel experience.
