The Delhi government plans to introduce a full-day tourist bus tour utilising air-conditioned electric buses in an effort to increase local tourism and revitalise its sightseeing offerings. Major sites including the Red Fort, Qutub Minar, Kartavya Path, Prime Ministers’ Museum, National War Memorial, and Lotus Temple will all be included in the itinerary.
According to tourism department officials, the idea was recently authorised during a board meeting of the Delhi Transport Corporation (DTC). By August 15, the service should be up and running, initially on a pilot basis with three to four buses.
Features that appeal to tourists and accommodate several languages
When renting a DEVI bus from the DTC, each 9-metre-long vehicle can accommodate approximately 30 people and has a tour guide on board. Tourists who do not speak Hindi, including those from Tamil Nadu or West Bengal, will be able to enjoy the tour in their own tongue thanks to the buses’ multilingual audio translation systems or headsets.
Additionally, to attract tourists and improve the entire experience, the bus exteriors will be refurbished with eye-catching wraps.
Hourly stops at landmarks and reasonably priced fares
Although fare negotiations are still in progress, starting prices are anticipated to be approximately Rs 500 for adults and Rs 300 for children between the ages of 6 and 12. Tourists will have plenty of time to explore each place because each bus will stop at each spot for at least an hour.
Depending on the program’s success, officials also discussed the possibility of adding more destinations to the circuit and developing more tourism routes.
Revival of the discontinued HoHo bus service
With this initiative, Delhi’s sightseeing bus tours—which were previously offered by the Hop-on Hop-off (HoHo) buses, which were halted during the COVID-19 pandemic—are back in operation. The new service intends to provide travellers wishing to comfortably visit the capital with a contemporary, environmentally responsible, and inclusive option.
