The Delhi Government plans to install approximately 7,000 new electric vehicle (EV) charging stations by the end of the year to promote clean mobility and increase EV adoption. The initiative is part of a broader strategy to reduce vehicular emissions, a major contributor to air pollution in the city.
Alongside the expansion of charging infrastructure, the government plans to strengthen public transport by adding over 2,000 buses by the end of 2026. Delhi currently operates 5,245 buses, including 3,377 electric buses. Authorities have identified a total requirement of 11,000 buses to meet city transport needs.
As of December, Delhi had 8,849 charging stations, against a projected requirement of 36,150, leaving a current deficit of 27,301 stations. With the addition of the 7,000 new stations, the total is expected to rise to 15,849 stations.
The existing EV policy will expire at the end of March, and a revised policy is expected to be finalized and notified by that deadline.
