The government of Delhi is considering a proposal under its upcoming Electric Vehicle (EV) policy that could require 30% of the city’s school bus fleet to be electric by 2030. The move is part of the capital’s broader plan to accelerate clean mobility and reduce vehicular pollution.
According to the proposal, the transition will take place in phases. Schools may be required to ensure that 10% of their buses are electric within two years of the policy’s implementation, rising to 20% in three years, and 30% by March 31, 2030.
The rule would apply to all school buses operating in Delhi, including vehicles owned by schools as well as those hired or leased from transport operators. Authorities believe the initiative will help cut emissions from school transportation while supporting the growth of the city’s electric mobility ecosystem.
The proposed measure is expected to be part of the new EV policy framework aimed at expanding electric vehicle adoption across multiple segments in the capital.
