Promoting electric vehicles since the launch of scheme in September ,2022, Chandigarh Renewable Energy and Science and Technology Promotion Society or CREST has distributed over Rs 6 crore as incentives to 964 buyers who purchased electric vehicles.

CRESTA special incentive was offered to buyers who purchased before March 31, a total of Rs 1.43 crore.

All categories of EVs were eligible for the incentives. The data showed that the two-wheeler vehicle category received the most incentives.

According to data, the maximum number of incentives were given to 705 buyers of electric two-wheelers, followed by 241 purchasers of four-wheelers, and 17 purchasers who bought three-wheelers.

Currently, a buyer of an EV must visit the CREST office to deposit documents such as EV invoices and other supporting documents to be eligible for the incentives. The amount is released after processing and following the rules.

Debendra Dalai, Chief Executive Officer of CREST said, “The EV policy has been achieved. In the city, more and more people are switching from internal combustion engines to electric vehicles. The process for requesting incentives is easy and the money is disbursed promptly.”

The “Early Bird Scheme,” was designed to attract buyers following the launch of the EV Policy in September 2022. Sources said that the department received a positive response from people who took advantage of this benefit.

The data revealed that over 1,500 EVs were registered in the city by the end of 31st March 2023 after the announcement of the EV Policy in September 2022.

Of these, 1,095 of them were two-wheelers. There were also 353 four-wheelers as well as 102 three-wheelers.
