Continental, a global leader in tyre technology and mobility solutions, has announced the development of low rolling resistance tyres for passenger cars and vans, reinforcing its commitment to sustainable and energy-efficient mobility. These new tyres are engineered to reduce energy consumption, lower CO₂ emissions, and improve electric vehicle (EV) range, making them a crucial advancement for both conventional and electric mobility.

Reducing Rolling Resistance for Cleaner Mobility

Rolling resistance refers to the energy lost when a tyre deforms while rolling, which significantly impacts a vehicle’s fuel efficiency. Continental notes that tyres account for 20–30% of fuel consumption in internal combustion vehicles, while in EVs, optimised rolling resistance directly contributes to extended driving range and reduced energy usage.

Dr Christian Strübel, Continental expert on rolling resistance, explained, “Reducing rolling resistance is a key development goal. The less energy a vehicle requires to move, the longer it can travel, saving customers money while benefiting the environment.”

      Balancing Efficiency and Safety

While reducing rolling resistance improves efficiency, Continental emphasises maintaining optimal grip and safety under all driving conditions. The new tyre designs incorporate advanced compounds and tread patterns to ensure excellent handling, braking performance, and durability. This ensures that drivers benefit from both enhanced energy efficiency and high safety standards, addressing critical concerns for urban and long-distance travel.

Supporting EVs and Sustainable Urban Transport

Low rolling resistance tyres are especially valuable for electric vehicles, which require efficient energy management to maximise driving range. By minimising energy loss, Continental’s new tyres allow EVs to travel further per charge, supporting broader adoption of electric mobility and contributing to global carbon reduction goals.

The development aligns with Continental’s long-term strategy to advance sustainable transportation solutions, reduce emissions across vehicle fleets, and support governments, businesses, and individuals in transitioning toward cleaner mobility.

      Commitment to a Sustainable Future

As cities and countries push for lower emissions and greener mobility solutions, Continental’s low rolling resistance tyres position the company at the forefront of the sustainable mobility movement. By combining efficiency, safety, and performance, these tyres are expected to play a vital role in enhancing EV adoption and promoting environmentally responsible driving worldwide.
