In the Garda district close to central Gothenburg, Circle K has opened the first electric vehicle (EV) charging-only station in Europe. With ten lightning-fast 400 kW chargers and a 100 m² (1,076 ft²) convenience store, this location is the biggest EV-only charging convenience hub in Circle K’s global network.
In order to serve the growing number of EV drivers and the more than 10,000 people who work nearby, the Gårda station is well situated along Sweden’s E6 motorway, which handles over 100,000 vehicles every day. Most cars can be charged from 0% to 80% in about 15 minutes thanks to the powerful chargers.
Ten single satellite chargers and two 600 kW power units make up the charging infrastructure, which is provided by Kempower. By removing the need for repeated verification, these include an improved Autocharge function that enables returning customers to start charging automatically when they plug in, simplifying the procedure.
Customers may use the on-site convenience shop, which serves a range of food options like award-winning sausage, kebab and fresh pizza, while their cars charge. Additionally, the store has plenty of seats and Wi-Fi, making it a comfortable place for customers to charge.
“Our new location at Garda marks a significant step in our ambition to win the EV customer—offering easy and convenient charging with a complete retail experience,” said Hans-Olav Hoidahl, Executive Vice President of European Operations and Global eMobility at Circle K.
This debut comes after Circle K’s largest EV charging hub, which has 26 lightning-fast chargers for both light and heavy vehicles, opened recently in Järna, Sweden. With more than 17,000 locations worldwide and more than 3,000 branded chargers in Europe, Circle K is constantly extending its infrastructure to satisfy the rising demand for electric mobility.
