In a bid to enhance the reliability of public electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure, ChargePoint has introduced a proactive maintenance programme dubbed “Safeguard Care”. The new initiative sends trained technicians to physically inspect, clean, and maintain EV charging stations before issues arise—shifting the company’s focus from reactive to preventive support.
The technicians deployed under Safeguard Care will perform routine checkups on ChargePoint stations, test equipment functionality with live charging, and address minor issues on-site. Any problems beyond immediate repair will be escalated to ChargePoint’s central support team for timely resolution.
“As the original manufacturer of the chargers, we are able to ensure the highest standards of service and support,” said JD Singh, Chief Customer Experience Officer at ChargePoint. “With Safeguard Care, ChargePoint is giving station owners and EV drivers peace of mind knowing that chargers will be in pristine working order.”
The Safeguard Care program will initially roll out in five U.S. markets—though ChargePoint has yet to disclose the exact locations. The new initiative complements ChargePoint Assure, the company’s existing software and hardware monitoring platform, and is particularly geared toward high-traffic sites such as parking garages, office complexes, and public charging stations where on-site maintenance crews may not be present.
The programme also builds on recent efforts by ChargePoint to improve infrastructure reliability, including anti-vandalism features and smarter remote diagnostics. By adding routine physical inspections to its toolkit, ChargePoint aims to curb charger downtime and elevate the customer experience.
Safeguard Care marks a notable shift in the EV charging industry, where reactive service based on failure alerts has long been the standard. This boots-on-the-ground strategy is expected to set a new benchmark in public charging support as EV adoption continues to surge.
