Cybersecurity is becoming a vital component of safe and sustainable transportation as electric vehicles (EVs) get smarter and more connected than ever. At Singapore Management University’s Connexion Boulevard, Upsight and SMU-X are presenting the ChargedUp: Cybersecurity x EV Showcase in an effort to increase awareness and encourage cross-industry collaboration.
With their digital dashboards, clever automation, and app connectivity, EVs are being compared more and more to smartphones on wheels at the time of this display. The cybersecurity of next-generation vehicles is currently in the limelight as Singapore’s government increases EV adoption through Budget 2025 incentives as part of its net-zero goals.
Key Highlights of the ChargedUp Showcase:
- Electric Vehicle Display: Attendees will get up close with advanced EV models from Tesla and MG, highlighting the latest in automotive technology.
- Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Live Demo: A unique real-time demonstration where CAKED by Seraphina will bake brownies powered entirely by an EV — showcasing how electric vehicles can serve as mobile energy sources beyond transportation.
- Future-ready Talks: Experts from Tesla and ChargedUp will share insights on the growing risks of EV cyber threats, and the robust measures being taken to safeguard vehicles, charging infrastructure, and user data.
Protecting Cyberspace in the EV Age
Given that more than 40% of Singapore’s new automobile sales in Q1 2025 would be electric, there is an urgent need for robust cybersecurity standards. Concerns are also growing on a global scale. White-hat hackers reportedly crippled a Tesla Model Y at Pwn2Own Automotive 2025 in Tokyo, highlighting how susceptible smart cars are to intrusions.
Widespread EV education is essential, according to Tan Khai San, Head of Business Operations at ChargedUp: “We need to close the education gap that many consumers still have regarding their EVs. Cybersecurity is essential; it is not a choice. It is a privilege to collaborate with SMU-X to initiate this important discussion.
The ChargedUp Showcase seeks to provide consumers, companies, and politicians with the information they need to propel Singapore towards a smarter, safer, and more resilient electric future as EVs become a crucial part of the country’s sustainable transportation objectives.
