The 8.5-, 12-, and 18-meter city buses of CaetanoBus’s latest generation are being unveiled.

A Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) version of the 18-meter vehicle, with doors on both sides and built for high-capacity urban routes, will be included.

The usage of parts and technology from CRRC, the biggest rolling stock manufacturer in the world, which produces high-speed trains, buses, and core components, is a notable aspect of the new buses.

With CATL BC5 battery systems, the Caetano battery electric buses have a maximum capacity of 465kWh for 12m models, 700kWh for 18m models, and 266kWh for the 8.5m model. High-energy-density LFP cells with a long service life, quick charging, and safety are a hallmark of CATL’s BC5 technology. With little degradation over time and an ultra-long cycle life of over 4,000 charge cycles, these batteries are designed to provide dependable performance for over ten years of use.

The Toyota Fuel Cell Stack Generation 2.5, which produces 70kW of power, is still at the core of the CAETANO hydrogen-powered buses. For 12m FC buses, the battery pack from CATL can now hold up to 130kWh, and for 18m FC buses, it can hold up to 170kWh.

The CRRC powertrain and a six-in-one inverter system, which combines six essential functions (drive motor control, generator control, DC/AC oil pump and air compressor control, DC/DC conversion, and high-voltage power distribution with insulation monitoring) into a single unit, are installed in both the CAETANO battery electric bus (e.CityGold) and hydrogen powered bus (H2.CityGold) segments. It is anticipated that this small unit and high degree of integration will increase overall vehicle efficiency and safety while reducing system weight by up to 70% and improving electrical reliability.

Nuno Lago de Carvalho, CCO and member of the Executive Committee at CaetanoBus, stated: “The new generation of CAETANO buses represents the forefront of e-mobility engineering—delivering exceptional reliability, performance, and safety for a smarter, more sustainable transportation future—thanks to the collaborative development efforts of CaetanoBus and CRRC, as well as rigorous software-in-the-loop and hardware-in-the-loop testing.” With a common platform that accommodates both battery-electric and hydrogen fuel cell technologies, we are equally proud of our ability to scale this invention over the whole CAETANO product range, from 8.5m to 18m buses. Maximum flexibility, effectiveness, and the smooth integration of state-of-the-art equipment across all vehicle configurations are guaranteed by this cohesive approach.
