BYD introduced its next-generation Blade Battery 2.0 during the “Disruptive Technology” event on March 5, promising a pure electric range of over 1,000 km (621 miles) under CLTC conditions and ultra-fast charging in just 10 minutes.
The new battery system can charge from 10% to 70% in five minutes and reach 97% in nine minutes. Even in extremely cold conditions as low as -30°C (-20°F) for 24 hours, the battery can recharge from 20% to 97% in 12 minutes. Vehicles equipped with Blade Battery 2.0 are expected to recharge 30–50% faster than current EV models under normal conditions.
Last year, BYD overtook Tesla to become the world’s top EV seller, but its growth in China has recently slowed amid rising competition from domestic EV makers. With Blade Battery 2.0, the company aims to regain momentum by offering longer ranges, faster charging, and advanced smart driving features.
The Blade Battery 2.0 is part of BYD’s strategy to make EV charging as convenient as refueling at a gas station, while maintaining performance and reliability in extreme temperatures.
