BYD is preparing to launch new electric vehicles capable of delivering more than 1,000 kilometres of range, as the world’s largest EV manufacturer continues to accelerate its technological push.

Recent testing activity in China has revealed several upcoming BYD models equipped with the company’s latest advancements, including ultra-fast charging capability of up to 1,000 kW. Regulatory filings published by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) have now disclosed details of a new model offering a claimed driving range exceeding 1,000 km.

The vehicle comes under BYD’s premium brand, Denza, and will be introduced as the Z9. It will feature BYD’s lithium iron phosphate (LFP) Blade batteries in two capacity options: 102 kWh and 122 kWh. With the larger battery pack, the Z9 is rated for up to 1,068 km under the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC).

Under the more stringent WLTP testing cycle used in many global markets, the range is expected to be closer to 800 km. The higher-performance Z9 GT variant, equipped with a tri-motor setup, offers a slightly lower CLTC range of 1,002 km due to the additional motor.

Regulatory information indicates the Z9 will be available in both single-motor and tri-motor configurations. The single-motor version delivers 370 kW through a rear-wheel-drive layout, while the tri-motor variant produces a combined output of 850 kW.

In terms of design, the Z9 retains its sleek touring wagon profile, complemented by updated wheels and an integrated roof-mounted lidar system aimed at improving aerodynamics and reducing cabin noise. The model also incorporates BYD’s “God’s Eye” advanced driver assistance system.

BYD has introduced several major innovations over the past year, including megawatt-level charging, enhancements to its advanced driver assistance systems, and battery technologies capable of surpassing the 1,000 km range milestone.

As these technologies move toward large-scale production, BYD is expected to expand their availability in international markets, strengthening its competitive position against traditional automakers and helping address range anxiety among drivers considering a transition from internal combustion engine vehicles.
