At the UITP Global Public Transport Summit in Hamburg, BYD unveiled the BYD eBus B13.b, their newest electric intercity bus. This is the first time in Europe and broadens BYD’s product line in the interurban zero-emission transportation market.

The Blade Battery Chassis is an integral feature of the manufacturer’s next-generation eBus platform, which serves as the foundation for the BYD eBus B13.b. BYD’s exclusive Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Blade Battery is integrated straight into the vehicle’s construction thanks to Cell-to-Chassis technology. BYD claims that this arrangement promotes structural stability and permits a low-floor plan that can facilitate passenger flow and accessibility.

Up to 560 kWh of battery capacity can be added to the B13.b. According to BYD, depending on operating circumstances, the bus can go more than 700 miles on a single charge. The car is intended for longer-distance, intercity travel and can accommodate up to 78 passengers.

Two wheel hub motors with hairpin windings provide the vehicle’s power, and BYD’s 6-in-1 controller based on silicon carbide supports this system. The purpose of this powertrain layout is to facilitate smooth operation and energy efficiency. Additionally, the B13.b has an Active Suspension Control System to enhance vehicle stability and ride quality.

After the BYD eBus B12, which was introduced at Busworld Europe 2023, the B13.b is the company’s second electric bus to utilise the Blade Battery Chassis platform.
