Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD has announced plans to launch its ultra-fast 1,000 kW Flash Charging system across Europe, aiming to transform the continent’s EV charging infrastructure. The announcement was made at the IAA Mobility 2025 event, highlighting BYD’s commitment to advancing high-speed charging solutions.
The Flash Charging system delivers up to 1,000 kW of power through a single CCS2 connector, enabling electric vehicles to gain approximately 400 kilometres (250 miles) of range in just five minutes. This addresses a key barrier to EV adoption—long charging times—by offering a convenience level comparable to refuelling conventional vehicles.
Powered by BYD’s Super e-Platform, the system incorporates advanced components such as a 1,500V silicon carbide power module and a high-speed electric motor capable of 30,511 rpm, ensuring high efficiency and performance.
BYD plans to roll out 200–300 Flash Charging stations across Europe by the second quarter of 2026, initially serving its premium Denza models, including the Z9 GT and D9 MPV. Demonstrations of the technology were showcased at the IAA Mobility event, providing attendees with firsthand experience of the ultra-fast charging capabilities.
Industry experts note that the introduction of such high-power chargers could significantly accelerate EV adoption in Europe by reducing charging times to near refuelling convenience. BYD’s initiative underscores the company’s focus on innovative, sustainable transportation solutions and its growing role in shaping the future of Europe’s EV ecosystem.
