At this week’s Eurobike trade show in Germany, Bosch eBike Systems is showcasing three updated e-bike drive units. The new versions of the Cargo Line, Performance Line Speed and Performance Line are quieter, lighter and more powerful. The German business has recently improved its PowerTube 540 bike battery.
Bosch has improved the torque, power, and support factor of its electric bicycle motors, the Cargo Line and Performance Line Speed. Through the eBike Flow app, users of electric bikes equipped with these Bosch motors can modify these settings to suit their requirements.
The updated Cargo Line is intended to power electric cargo bikes, as the name implies. With a maximum power output of 750 watts (up from 600 previously) and a torque of up to 100 Newton metres (up from 85 previously), the drive unit can now provide even more power. In addition to being quieter and lighter, the Cargo Line now weighs 2.8 kg, which is around 100 grams less than its predecessor. When help is required, the cargo mode can offer up to 400 per cent. Handling is further made easier with the hill start aid and pushing aid, which both include Hill Hold.
Up to 400% maximum support up to 45 km/h, 100 Nm of torque, and 750 watts of maximum power are now features of the new Performance Line Speed. S-pedelecs’ drive unit is “the ideal system for commuters who want to ride at higher speeds and get there faster,” according to Bosch. In addition to being about 100 grams lighter than its predecessor, the Performance Line Speed has features like the Limit Mode, which, upon request, restricts the electric bike’s power to a top speed of 25 km/h.
Bicycle paths in Germany and other countries have a 25 km/h speed limit. Like mopeds, higher-speed electric bikes need to be registered as vehicles and must travel on roads. Manufacturers of bicycles and light electric vehicles that use Bosch motors typically select the limited edition models for models intended for use on bike paths and in urban areas.
Additionally, Bosch has revealed improvements to its bicycle batteries. At the trade show, Bosch unveiled the new PowerTube 540, which is already available. Compared to the PowerTube 500, which has the same weight but a greater range, the PowerTube 540 now offers 540 watt-hours of energy. High safety standards are met by the integrated battery, which offers about 800 watt-hours and can be used in conjunction with the PowerMore 250 range extender if necessary.
Since these city vehicle types were introduced to the public market more than ten years ago, the market for electric bicycles and micromobility has grown steadily. For instance, Gazelle, Cannondale, and Riese & Müller are among the electric bicycle manufacturers in Europe, North America, and Australia that Bosch supplies. The business claims that 1,702 different models of electric bicycles currently use Bosch eBike systems.
The German business withdrew from the electric car battery industry and now only produces batteries for electric bikes, although Bosch still provides motors and other parts for electric vehicles and marine applications of all sizes. Bosch has also made investments in businesses that recycle batteries.
