The BMW Group Plant Steyr in Austria has sent its first sixth-generation electric engines to the BMW Group Plant in Debrecen, Hungary, marking a major turning point in the company’s electric mobility adventure. The Neue Klasse test vehicles will be powered by these e-motors, which is an important step toward series manufacturing.
“Only ten months have passed since the electric drivetrain systems were installed at the Steyr factory. Munich’s development team has been receiving these state-of-the-art electric engines from our facility since September” said, Klaus von Moltke, Senior Vice President of Engine Production at BMW AG and Managing Director of facility Steyr. “They are currently being shipped straight to Debrecen so they can be installed in test cars.”
Three months ago, BMW started producing the next-generation electric motors at Steyr, where it has become a world leader in engine manufacture. The emphasis on improvement was underlined by Helmut Hochsteiner, the plant’s Vice President of Electric Engine Production: “We will continue validating and optimizing the production process for these advanced e-motors in the coming months.”
The cargo to Debrecen marks a significant milestone in the plan to produce the Neue Klasse electric vehicle portfolio and its cutting-edge e-motors in series.
