Battery Smart has achieved a historic milestone by becoming India’s first company to complete 100 million electric vehicle battery swaps, reinforcing the country’s accelerating transition toward clean, affordable, and accessible electric mobility.
The landmark achievement comes nearly five years after the company’s inception and reflects the growing adoption of battery swapping for electric two- and three-wheelers across India. Battery Smart is currently estimated to operate around 70% of India’s battery-swapping infrastructure, positioning it as a key enabler of the nation’s EV ecosystem.
₹10 Crore Driver Welfare Fund 2026 Announced
To commemorate the milestone and deepen its commitment to driver partners, Battery Smart announced the launch of the Driver Welfare Fund 2026, a ₹10 crore initiative designed to strengthen the social and economic security of EV drivers.
The fund aims to benefit approximately 1 lakh EV drivers through enhanced insurance coverage, financial protection, referral and reward programs, free battery swaps, skill development initiatives, and community inclusion programs.
Enabling Clean Kilometres and Strong Driver Earnings
Battery Smart’s battery-swapping network has enabled over 3.5 billion clean kilometres, helping India avoid an estimated 237,000 tonnes of CO₂e emissions, equivalent to saving 233 million litres of fuel.
The platform has also played a critical role in improving livelihoods, enabling cumulative driver earnings of over ₹2,800 crore, underlining the economic impact of reliable, zero-downtime electric mobility for the gig and commercial transport sectors.
Leadership Perspective on Scaling Clean Mobility
Commenting on the achievement, Co-founders Pulkit Khurana and Siddharth Sikka stated that crossing 100 million swaps marks a defining moment not only for Battery Smart but for EV adoption in India as a whole.
They highlighted that each battery swap represents a conscious shift toward cleaner transportation, improved vehicle uptime, and reduced operational anxiety for drivers. The founders emphasized that the milestone is the result of collaboration among drivers, station partners, OEMs, investors, and policymakers who believed in the scalability of battery swapping in India.
Inclusive Ecosystem with Strong Focus on Women Participation
Battery Smart has built a highly inclusive EV ecosystem, with over 5,000 women drivers and more than 250 women partners actively participating in its network. The company continues to promote diversity and inclusion across India’s clean mobility value chain.
Its IoT-enabled battery technology supports predictive maintenance and real-time monitoring, significantly reducing downtime—an essential factor for gig workers and commercial drivers where vehicle availability directly impacts earnings.
Technology-Driven Operations Power Nationwide Reliability
Leveraging smart IoT batteries and advanced analytics, Battery Smart ensures high uptime and consistent swapping availability, allowing drivers to swap batteries anytime and anywhere. The company’s technology stack enhances operational efficiency while maintaining stringent safety standards across its network.
Expansion Plans Through 2026
Looking ahead, Battery Smart plans to expand operations to 100 additional cities by 2026, deploy thousands of new battery-swapping stations, and significantly scale daily swap volumes to meet rising demand from commercial EV operators.
The roadmap also includes investments in next-generation safety systems and enhanced IoT intelligence, alongside continued collaboration with regulators and industry stakeholders to accelerate India’s clean mobility transition.
