A Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed in Seoul, South Korea, between Ather Energy, a prominent electric two-wheeler manufacturer in India, and Infineon Technologies Asia Pacific Pte Ltd, a world leader in semiconductor solutions, to collaboratively promote innovation in the Indian EV market. With a common goal of supporting India’s expanding EV ecosystem, the partnership focusses on developing semiconductor technologies to enhance safety, charging infrastructure, and light electric vehicles (LEVs).
The alliance intends to combine Ather’s experience in designing cutting-edge LEVs (Light Electric Vehicles) with Infineon’s state-of-the-art semiconductor solutions based on a variety of technologies, microcontrollers, and automotive-related sensors. The firms will collaborate to enable more economical, dependable, and efficient EV solutions, which will accelerate the uptake of electric two-wheelers in India.
Ather Energy’s Executive Director and CTO, Swapnil Jain, spoke at the event and stated, “Ather has always held the belief that making outstanding EVs begins with getting the basics right: performance, efficiency, and reliability. Our strategy has always been based on deep engineering and first-principles thinking, asking how any system can be improved, accelerated, and made more effective. Innovation in semiconductors becomes crucial at that point. Our engineering-first philosophy is supported by the extensive experience that Infineon’s leadership in semiconductors and system solutions brings. Through our collaboration with Infineon, we have access to cutting-edge technology that can help us enhance important systems, such as safety and charging, and investigate methods to lower system complexity and expense. We are eager to explore how this partnership will enable us to push the limits of both our products and India’s broader EV ecosystem.”
“India is one of the fastest-growing EV markets globally, and electric two-wheelers are at the heart of this transformation,” stated Peter Schaefer, Executive Vice President and Chief Sales Officer Automotive at Infineon, emphasising the significance of this relationship. In order to facilitate the next generation of sustainable mobility solutions, we are excited to collaborate with Ather Energy. High-performance and energy-efficient electric vehicles will be powered by our cutting-edge SiC and GaN technologies. This collaboration will encourage innovation that significantly advances India’s aspirational goal of achieving a 30% EV sales share by 2030.
In order to improve vehicle safety and user experience, this partnership will investigate sensing and safety advancements. By offering notable improvements in energy efficiency, charging speed, and overall system dependability, these solutions increase EVs’ accessibility, sustainability, convenience, and market appeal.
