Two battery options will be available for the Nissan Micra EV: a 40 kWh pack with a range of about 308 km and a 52 kWh pack with a range of up to 408 km on a single charge.
Nissan has revealed details on the upcoming sixth-generation Micra. The dramatic twist is that, for the first time in the Micra’s 40-year history, it is entirely electric. The new Micra EV, which is based on the Renault 5 Tech, is intended for European consumers and will formally launch later this year.
“We have begun a new chapter for the Micra as an EV and highlighted all the virtues that have historically made it so popular in the design of the sixth generation of the Micra. At first glance, the exterior appears bold and whimsical, yet its attitude provides it a strong presence on the road. Owners will adore the charming elements we were able to incorporate within the design.” According to Nissan Vice President Giovanny Arroba, “We’re proud to have been able to bring the Micra into the EV age.”
Nissan Micra EV: Specifications
There will be two battery options for the first-ever Micra EV: 40 kWh and 52 kWh. Starting with the more potent 52 kWh battery, it weighs 1524 kilograms and produces 110 kW (147.5 horsepower) and 245 Nm of torque. Nissan claims that the 52 kWh model has a 408 km range between charges.
In contrast, the 40 kWh variant generates 90 kW (120 horsepower) and 225 Nm of torque. According to the Japanese automaker, the base model weighs 1400 kg and has a 308 km range.
According to Nissan, it can be charged from 15% to 80% in 30 minutes using a 100 kW DC charger or 80 kW for the 40 kWh model. Both battery alternatives come equipped with a heat pump to maximise charging efficiency, as well as battery heating and cooling capabilities.
The new Micra will have V2L (Vehicle-to-Load) technology on both battery variants, allowing owners to use the battery’s electrical capacity to power other equipment, adding even more advantages to the switch to electric power.
Nissan Micra EV: Features
A redesigned three-spoke steering wheel and two 10.1-inch screens—one for the infotainment system and the digital instrument cluster—are features of the Micra EV’s cabin. The smartphone may be synchronised by Bluetooth, and the touchscreen display has an integrated navigation system. Depending on the model, it has three options for seat upholstery: Modern, Audacious, and Chill. The Advanced Driver Assistance System, often known as Nissan ProPilot Assist, will be installed in the Micra EV.
Will Nissan bring the Micra EV to India?
Later this year, Nissan plans to introduce the brand-new, all-electric Micra EV to the European market. The key question at hand is whether the Japanese automaker would launch the EV hatchback in India. The Indian government is promoting the use of electric vehicles on a large scale; therefore, the Micra EV might revolutionise Nissan India’s product line. The company has not yet confirmed any intentions to introduce the all-electric hatchback in the Indian market, despite its promise.
