The electric scooter market in India is expanding rapidly, with several new models expected to launch later this year. Electric scooters currently account for nearly 95% of total electric two-wheeler sales in the country. Along with established brands like Bajaj Auto, TVS Motor Company, and Hero MotoCorp, new players are preparing to introduce their products in the fast-growing EV segment.
Here are five upcoming electric scooters expected to launch in India in 2026:
1. VinFast Electric Scooter
VinFast is planning to start selling electric scooters in India from the second quarter of 2026. The company will manufacture the scooters at its upcoming facility in Thoothukudi, Tamil Nadu, where it has committed an investment of around $2 billion (₹16,000 crore). Popular VinFast models sold in other Asian markets include the Feliz, Klara, and Vero X, though it is yet to be confirmed which of these will arrive in India.
2. Ather EL01 Family Scooter
Ather Energy is working on an affordable family electric scooter called EL01, first revealed as a concept in August 2025. The model is expected to launch during the 2026 festive season. It will feature Advanced Electronic Braking System (AEBS), a 7-inch TFT touchscreen, voice commands, and AtherStack 7.0 software. The scooter will be developed at Ather’s facility in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar.
3. New Honda Electric Scooter
Japanese manufacturer Honda is also preparing a new electric scooter for India after limited success with the Honda Activa e: and Honda QC1. The upcoming model is expected to address earlier issues such as the lack of home charging and limited boot space, making it more suitable for Indian customers. It is likely to debut by late 2026.
4. New Simple Energy Scooter
Bengaluru-based Simple Energy is developing a family-focused electric scooter to compete with the Ather Rizta. Patent images suggest the scooter will feature an LED headlamp, flat floorboard, long seat, and pillion backrest, making it practical for daily commuting.
5. New Ampere Electric Scooter
Greaves Electric Mobility is expected to launch a new Ampere electric scooter later this year. The model, referred to as the Ampere 6th Gen Electric Scooter, is expected to be priced below ₹1 lakh and will support over-the-air (OTA) updates. It will compete with models like the Bajaj Chetak and Hero Vida.
With several new launches planned, competition in India’s electric scooter segment is expected to intensify in 2026 as companies aim to capture a larger share of the rapidly growing EV market.
