India’s electric vehicle market is expanding beyond hatchbacks and SUVs as automakers gear up to launch a new wave of electric MPVs. While SUVs remain popular, these upcoming people-movers promise spacious, family-friendly alternatives for eco-conscious buyers. Currently, only a few e-MPVs are available in India, but that is set to change in 2026.
Maruti Suzuki YMC
Maruti Suzuki is preparing its second EV for India in the form of the YMC, a seven-seater MPV. Built on the modular HEARTECT-e skateboard platform co-developed with Toyota, the YMC promises maximum cabin space, a flat floor, and a wide stance.
Battery options are expected to range from 40 kWh to 60 kWh, and the vehicle may feature a Rear-Wheel Drive layout, unlike the eVitara’s Front-Wheel Drive. The MPV will be sold through NEXA outlets and will compete with the Kia Carens Clavis EV and Mahindra XEV 9S.
Toyota Version of YMC
As part of the ongoing Maruti Suzuki–Toyota partnership, Toyota is expected to launch a counterpart to the YMC MPV with similar battery options but distinct Toyota styling. Details on launch timelines and pricing are yet to be revealed.
Vinfast Limogreen
Vietnamese automaker Vinfast is planning the India launch of its third electric MPV, the Limogreen, likely in the first quarter of 2026. The 5+2 seater will feature a 60.1 kWh battery, an EV skateboard platform, and a front-axle motor producing 201 hp and 280 Nm of torque.
Global specifications suggest a claimed range of 450 km per charge, with support for 11 kW AC and 80 kW DC fast charging. The Limogreen will compete with the BYD eMax7 and Mahindra XEV 9S in India.
